Let's Steer CMZC Through This Crisis Together

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on CMZC's finances is extraordinary.

For 33 years, Crestone Mountain Zen Center has relied on onsite Zen and Guest Programs for its livelihood. We have emphasized face-to-face dharma teachings, Zen monastic forms, inventive temple cuisine, and Bodhisattva hospitality.

Based on the medical and legal advice we've received, we have concluded that our usual group gatherings of 20-40 persons will neither be safe nor desirable for most people for many months to come. Probably only a vaccine and/or reliable treatment for the infected will give people the confidence to gather again in retreat settings.

We will be closed for group events until the end of the year.

Cancellations of Zen events and group retreats
are causing a revenue loss of $190,000.

We are accepting this change and have begun to reinvent ourselves. Please help us with this process.

To date we have:

  • Cut our regular budget significantly.
  • Moved Zen programs online.
  • Improved member benefits and access to live and recorded online content.
  • Invented individual quarantine "refuge retreats" for those who need a safe place.
  • Sought initial gifts from major donors.

For 2020, we are forecasting a shortfall of $40,000.

Please consider an urgent gift to this emergency fund.
